When it feels like nobody is paying attention

Tune in to the episode:   APPLE PODCASTS  |  SPOTIFY  |  STITCHER

When I’m feeling disheartened by ALL the content, marketing, social content, blog posts, podcast episodes (coming soon!)... that I’m creating, pushing out, recycling, repurposing... well, I want to crawl into bed, pull the covers over my head and say F’ it. (Just me??)

The truth is, most of the time it feels like screaming into the void.

Is anyone even listening?

WTF am I even doing?

Am I really going to keep at this?

And on, and on, and on, and on...

But this is the thought that’s spurring me on lately:

You’ve never communicated with 99% of the people who will purchase from you or who will eventually become your clients.

Why does this thought help me?

Because it helps me remember that there are people out there (maybe even you!) who are reading, watching, and listening. People who are creating a relationship with you in their minds LONG before you’re ever even aware of it. The 99% of people who you're not physically aware of yet.

You’re educating them. Inspiring them. Empathizing with them. Rooting for them.

They just haven’t slid into your DMs or hit reply to an email...yet. But they will when the time is right.

graphic with light tan background, woman smiling in lower right corner, and text that reads: brand spanking you podcast episode 007. when it feels like nobody is paying attention. listen now.

Listen, I KNOW how discouraging it can feel to keep posting to crickets. I do it every dang week. For real. It’s easy to look at others and think “they must be swamped with messages from adoring fans.” Yeah...no. Most of us aren’t.

But then one person comments or sends a message letting me know that something I said or wrote touched them.

Wanna know what that means? It means there are loads of other people out there that it touched too. They just didn’t take the time to let me know.

Seriously, think about it. How many times in your endless scrolling, email purging day do you see messages or content that causes you to take a pause or ponder- even if just for a moment?

Now think about how often you actually take the time to leave a thoughtful comment or send a message when that happens.

If you’re anything like me, it’s almost never. No shade. That’s just the way it is. If I was responding to everything that resonated with me, that’s ALL I would be doing all day long.

BUT, recognizing this common behavior encourages me to keep going and keep consistent with my own content.

Because I know that there are people out there reading, watching, & listening. And when the time is right, they’ll reach out, or schedule the call and we’ll connect.

I’m going even deeper into this idea with this weeks episode. Plus, sprinkling in my thoughts on creating habits around being consistent when you’re filled with the feeling of discouragement, and how I’m experimenting with creating content as an art form in order to shift creating marketing for my business from something I “have” to do, to something I look forward to and “get” to do.

Listen to the episode below:

This episode discusses topics like…

  • Why not getting comments or hearing back from your audience doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing anything wrong

  • What “having a relationship with someone in your mind” means when it comes to your social following, email list, and online offers.

  • The simple thought shift you can make in order to show up more consistently with your marketing even when you’re not getting an avalanche of engagement on your content.

  • Why setting low bars with new habits might be the key to actually creating consistency and long-term successful outcomes.

  • What turning content creation into an art form means, and how that might help you release resistance.
